Wow, a “2 CD” release. Been a while since I saw one of these I think, but then again I don’t follow the game scene very closely. Reading about this game I am reminded a bit of the game Wipeout, which I first played on the first Sony Playstation console. It was pretty cool back then, lets see if they’ve managed to keep the “genre” fresh in this game. Either way, its not like you have to pay OLOLOL. This p2p CLONEDVD has been on the Piratebay for a couple of days now, but people were doubting that it was actually the real deal. We can now confirm that it in fact IS real. It took a long time for the download to finish for people since there were only two initial seeders and an immense amount of people started leeching it at once. This is why it took such a long time to confirm whether this was real or not and the reason why you will see it pop up on private trackers about this time such as TL. Check the Usenet link. Rapidshare links should be about pretty soon.

Note: This is currently unplayable. You can download it now however and wait for the fully cracked version to appear. You can then use that crack on this CLONEDVD.

Wow, what a surprise right here. Usually not a lot of huge releases come out on saturdays, but here is a big one and surprisingly from SKIDROW!! Yeah they usually release extremely small and unknown games, but they managed to pre this before any of the other expected ones (RELOADED…). People have praised this game so much that I think it’s a must play.

Procyon released the CLONEDVD of this game just before RELOADED released the fully cracked version. When Guitar Hero 3 was cracked it was pretty fun to play with the keyboard. I got so used to it that it felt weird to play with the proper guitar controller after a while. Personally I think making a Guitar Hero game dedicated to one band is stupid as f*ck, but that’s just me. I always thought the joy in these games was playing classic rock tunes you dig but also finding new rockin songs you’d never heard. This is a SERIOUSLY awesome game. Let me mention that I very rarely enjoy games these days. Most games I’ll play for a couple of hours and get extremely bored of. I think this is mostly because so few games offer some original gameplay these days. So often it’s visual based improvements that amaze me for about a full 2 seconds then bore me. This game has some really enjoyable gameplay though and after 4 days I’m still playing it. Stepping into the shoes of Isaac the engineer and slicing limbs off aliens with high power tools is an incredible feeling, not to mention the creepy atmosphere and general mood of the game. I highly recommend it. Of course previously there was a dvd clone of this game with a crack from Darkc0der, but finally the scene has cracked it.

Fight with Weapons and Telekinesis: The alien hordes are incredibly resilient. You’ll have to find creative ways to neutralize the attacking enemies by shearing off limbs with powerful weapons. And when the ammo runs out you’ll be thankful that you can use your telekinetic powers to pick up objects (even the aliens’ own severed arms and legs) and hurl them at your advancing enemies.

True Zero-G Effects: You’ll be able to take full advantage of zero gravity in Deep Space. Battling enemies and solving puzzles takes on new challenges and present ingenious opportunities with the Zero-G game play. You can use zero gravity to create your own path around obstacles by walking on walls and the ceiling. Leap across vast distances or change your perspective to gain a strategic advantage over your enemies.

GOREME, Turkey (CNN) -- "These are the fairy chimneys," our guide Alec said, pointing to a hill covered in large, strangely shaped rocks. "This one is a camel. That one over there is the Virgin Mary."
After driving from the Kayseri airport for an hour surrounded by sunflower fields on a flat, two lane road traversing Turkey's Anatolian plateau, the landscape changed drastically from an even plain to something resembling the moon. My mom and I couldn't believe the sight of these giant objects randomly emerging from the ground.

The "fairy chimneys" were created by a volcanic eruption millions of years ago and shaped over the years by wind and rain. These formations cover Cappadocia, an area in the center of Anatolia, where people built dozens of towns and monasteries using the rugged landscape for protection and shelter.

This remote region in the center of Anatolia is far from any of Turkey's major cities, but it has become a hot spot for backpackers and upscale tourists alike. The captivating landscape, combined with thousands of years of history and recently built luxury hotels, have put this isolated area on the map for travelers looking for something a little off the beaten path.

Our guide explained how the "fairy chimneys" got their name. They were first inhabited thousands of years ago and later abandoned. When people returned to Cappadocia, they didn't know who had built homes inside the rocks and believed that fairies had lived there previously.

Our first stop was Zelve, an almost 2,000-year-old monastery carved into the anthill-like formations. Some of the first Christians fleeing persecution from the Roman Empire found refuge in this remote area.

"Last week we could walk that way," Alec said, pointing to the roped-off path blocked by crumbling rocks. "But the boulders keep falling."

Scaling uneven rocks and ducking under low ceilings, we discovered bedrooms, churches and kitchens that had been carved into the rocks by hand. A tandoori grill was dug into the soft earth below and the outside of each home had a pigeon house, since local people relied heavily on the birds for food and fertilizer.

The Goreme Open-Air Museum, encompassing the site of the most well-known and largest of the preserved towns in the area, was a monastic community for early Christians. There are many intact, rock-hewn churches decorated with paintings and drawings from the town's original inhabitants.

Once inside the open-air museum, there's an extra fee to see the Dark Church, but it's worth the price.

Built into an unpresumptuous cave like the others, very little light is allowed inside, which has helped the colorful frescoes stay perfectly preserved. Many of the paintings were created around the 11th century and depict scenes from the Bible, including one of the Last Supper.

On the road outside Goreme, our guide pulled over to the side of the road and asked if we wanted to see Love Valley. Curious, we obliged, and so he drove us through an unpaved path covered in overgrown shrubbery. After a few minutes, the landscape opened up to a giant field filled with dozens of giant rocks.

As soon as we got out of the car, we realized how this place got its name. Marked by a yellow wooden sign with red phallic objects etched on, we looked up and saw dozens of X-rated rocks. It looked like Mother Nature had a good sense of humor in designing a field full of 70-foot-high erections.

Our guide told us that George Lucas had wanted to film one of his Star Wars movies in the region, but was talked out of it after colleagues took a closer look at the landscape.

We saw once-bustling cities below the ground as well. The first Christians used to escape persecution in underground hideouts such as Derinkuyu, which stretches at least eight floors beneath the earth and only 10 percent of which is open to the public.

Even the bravest of travelers may feel claustrophobic in the sprawling maze of dimly lit tunnels and chambers. Inside, we saw a winery, school and stalls for animals. To protect themselves from possible invaders, people designed round stone doors that could be rolled to open and shut off the hallways.

We were taken to our hotel, the Anatolian Houses, which was a much more upscale version of cave life. Travelers in Cappadocia used to be mainly backpackers, but recently, more upscale hotels have been popping up all over the region.

Our luxury hotel, situated on a hill overlooking the town of Goreme, was built in 2006 and has 19 guest rooms. Our room was built into the soft rock and was complete with a glass case with Anatolian artifacts and a traditional Turkish carpet covering the slate floor.

From our own patio outside our room, we had a beautiful view of the sun setting over Goreme. We relaxed at the end of the day, sipping on world-renowned Cappadocian wine from a flowing tap next to the pool.

Newest 'Guitar Hero' lets you create music

(CNN) -- It has fed the dreams of millions of air guitarists, headbangers and rocker wannabes. It has exposed a new generation of fans to classic rock and metal while helping the slumping record industry boost sales.
Now, for an encore, the wildly popular "Guitar Hero" video game franchise has a new, more ambitious goal: It wants to help you record original music and share it with other fans around the world.

"Guitar Hero World Tour," the fourth major installment in the gaming series, hits stores Sunday, October 26. Unlike past "GH" games, which came only with a guitar-shaped controller, "GHWT" also includes a drum kit and microphone, so gamers can tackle bass, vocal and percussion parts, too.

The game's new studio mode will allow players to use the instrument controllers to record music tracks. Through an online service called GHTunes, players also will be able to upload their songs, download others or collaborate to create music together.

The 86 songs in "Guitar Hero World Tour," all master recordings, include such riff-heavy classics as Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze," Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train" and Bon Jovi's "Livin' On a Prayer." But the game also ventures into such new "GH" genres as country (Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again") and even dance pop ("Beat It" by Michael Jackson).

CNN spoke with "Guitar Hero" creators Charles and Kai Huang of RedOctane about the new game. (Some of their answers have been edited.)

CNN: What were your goals in developing "Guitar Hero World Tour?"

Charles Huang: One of our goals was to create a great social gaming experience, so that four people can get together and play. The other was. . .the new feature we call GHTunes. In a music studio in "Guitar Hero" you can actually use our instrument controllers, create your own original music, upload it onto the Internet and . . .other people can download your music and play it in "Guitar Hero." You can lay down a drum track, stop, then pick up a guitar and lay down a guitar track. And then you can go into an editing studio and edit your song and put the finishing touches on it. So there's going to be almost an unlimited amount of original music. . .that people will explore.

Kai Huang: With GHTunes, once we launch that, it's going to be the biggest open platform for online distribution of music. That's something that's never really been offered before.

You've added other instruments to the game. How influenced were you by the success of "Rock Band?"

Kai Huang: We started with guitar. But our ultimate vision had always been about putting all of the instruments together and creating a band product. It was about waiting until we had what we thought the gamers were really going to want. With "World Tour," we have all new instruments.

CH: The guitar controller is slightly larger [than before].

KH: And we took a lot of time to make sure our drums were as authentic as possible. We've actually put the velocity-sensing technology in there, so the harder you hit the drum head, the harder it's going to sound, and the softer you hit, the softer its going to sound.

How does the game score players' vocals? That sounds tricky.

CH: The guitar and the drums work on a rhythm, a beat matching. And the vocals work on pitch matching. You have to match the pitch of the notes as they scroll by.

Why did you add a beginner level?

KH: Our whole objective with "Guitar Hero" is to make it as broadly accessible as possible. By adding this beginner mode, we can get even young kids, who are 5, 6, 7 and who maybe can't coordinate pressing a button on the guitar and strumming at the same time. . .to make it really easy for them. All they have to do is strum.

CH: My 7- and 9-year-old daughters play. And there are times when my 70-year-old dad plays. You want to give people of all ages and all sizes the ability to play "Guitar Hero" and have fun.

What about compatibility across formats? If I create a song on a Wii console, for example, could other people play it on an Xbox?

CH: I believe GHTunes is compatible across all formats.

How did you choose the songs for this game?

KH: We're looking for music that connects with people. When they hear it, they go, "Wow, I love that song and I have to buy this game." We start with a list of maybe 200 or 300 songs we would love to license. And from there we work with the labels and the artists themselves to see which ones we can actually get.

CH: We try to cover a lot of different genres and different eras. "Guitar Hero" has always been known for classic rock and metal. But we also look for songs that have great instrumentals and are fun to play, like "La Bamba," by Los Lobos, which is surprisingly difficult. We put in [new] genres like the Beastie Boys. Michael Jackson is in there. What's great about "Beat It" is that a lot of people forget that Eddie Van Halen played the guitar solo on that.

When you guys were first developing "Guitar Hero," didn't you have a hard time convincing artists to let you use their songs?

KH: Yeah, with "Guitar Hero 1," it was an unknown game. We went out and tried to license music and frankly got turned down for about 97 percent of the songs we asked for. They didn't know what this game was. We didn't have enough money to play them anyway. So it was a real challenge at the beginning. It's become much easier for us.

Do you have a preferred console for playing "Guitar Hero"?

CH: We try to take advantage of the uniqueness of each console. They're all very different, and we try to tailor our games to match the strengths of each.

KH: Yeah, we love all of our children. How do you choose?

What do you think has been "Guitar Hero's" biggest impact on the music industry?

CH: We actually saw...song downloads go up the week after "Guitar Hero III" was released -- for every single song that was included.

KH: Aerosmith generated more money on royalties for their game ["Guitar Hero Aerosmith"] than they did on each of their past two albums. So they [the games] are truly bringing artists to new audiences, and much bigger audiences.

So the new game will be in stores October 26? That's a Sunday.

KH: It is. It'll give you a whole day to play. You won't have to cut work.

Muslim-American voices heard in presidential race

(CNN) -- Muslim-Americans say they are more interested than ever before in the political process, in part because their religion has been reduced to a talking point in the presidential campaign.
Like many other Americans, the estimated 2.3 million Muslims living in the U.S. have been hurt by a limping economy, a problematic healthcare system and an unclear immigration policy. And the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have also hit close to home.

Fatema Biviji, 32, had never given much thought to politics until she received an e-mail earlier this year that said -- falsely -- that Sen. Barack Obama is a Muslim. The Internet hoax, its origin unknown, was apparently intended to tie Obama to terrorism and swing support to his opponent, Republican Sen. John McCain.

"I was so mad," Biviji said. "The premise of that e-mail is that a person's religion should decide a person's character.

"We're America, the melting pot, the land of diversity, and that Americans would be buying into that psychology [of the e-mails] was upsetting," said the New Jersey-born Muslim, whose parents are from India. "The e-mail offended my American ideals."

Obama has stated repeatedly that he is a Christian and emphatically pledged his patriotism.

Biviji began to research Obama and could relate to his international background, his years in Indonesia as a young man, and his father's Kenyan roots. And his views on the issues aligned with hers.

So she began chatting with members of her community in Irving, Texas, encouraging people to register to vote and become more active. She began blogging about the presidential election and formed a grass-roots organization with about 100 members who have helped register dozens of people to vote, she said. Her blog is featured on Obama's campaign Web site.

But Biviji said it hasn't always been easy for Muslim-Americans to support candidates who don't usually seem to support them.

"Neither candidate has visited a mosque," said Ahmed Rehab, the executive director of the Chicago chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a civil liberties and advocacy group. "It might not be a gesture that's the politically right thing to do, but it's the morally right thing," Rehab said. CAIR has registered thousands of Muslim voters across the country.

He said he was approached by one of the major parties to run for office this year. But he decided against it.

"If you have one guy [Obama] who has a Muslim father that he really never knew and who isn't a Muslim being hounded, then imagine a guy like me who works so publicly in support of rights for Muslims," said Rehab. "I'm not sure I want to go through that."

But Asma Hasan, a 34-year-old from Colorado who writes the blog "Glamocracy" for Glamour magazine, said she thinks Muslims are more likely to jump into the political fray. "I think people tend to be more open to different points of view now than they were before," she said. "It's not a perfect environment, but it's getting better."

Her brother Mohammad Ali Hasan, 28, is Muslim and Republican.

He is running for a Colorado state Senate seat.

"If I don't win, it's not because I'm a Muslim," he said, laughing. "It will likely be because I'm a Republican."

Asma Hasan said it can be a challenge sometimes to reconcile being a Republican and being a Muslim.

"A lot of this election is about the Iraq war, the GOP's support for the war and ultimately how we handle that war now," she said. Several younger voters have e-mailed her about her blog items filed from the campaign trail with thoughtful, substantive political comments and questions. They are excited about the election and they plan to vote, she said.

"But that's the beauty of politics because it doesn't matter what your religion is or your cultural background or who your family is," she said. "You make decisions on who to vote for based on a lot of different factors -- not just one. And I think people are interested this year. There are definitely a lot of younger people, and a lot of younger Muslims, who are going to vote."

Asma Hasan echoed Rehab's frustration about the occasional fumbles of the candidates toward the Muslim community. She pointed to a June incident at an Obama rally.

Two women were told not to sit behind Obama because they were wearing head scarves. Campaign volunteers thought it would would look bad if the women were seen behind the candidate in a photo or on television.

The Obama campaign quickly apologized, and a campaign spokeswoman said that the incident was not reflective of Obama's message, according to the New York Times.

More recently, a woman at a McCain rally in Minnesota stood up and faced the candidate. She said she doesn't support Obama because "He is an Arab." McCain shook his head and replied, "No ma'am, no ma'am."

Former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell, a Republican, endorsed Obama for president on Sunday, praising Obama as a candidate who is "inclusive." Powell said he had heard members of his own party suggest that Obama is a Muslim.

"What if he is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country?" Powell said. "No, that's not America. Is there something wrong with some 7-year-old Muslim kid believing that he or she can be president?"

Powell made the endorsement on NBC's "Meet the Press" and went on to say that he was disturbed by recent attacks the McCain camp had lobbed at Obama.

"It troubled me. We have two wars. We have economic problems. We have health problems. We have education problems. We have infrastructure problems. We have problems around the world with our allies. So those are the problems the American people wanted to hear about, not about [1960s radical William] Ayers, not about who is a Muslim or who's not a Muslim," Powell told reporters after the endorsement.

"Those kinds of images going out on Al-Jazeera are killing us around the world," Powell continued. "And we have got to say to the world, it doesn't make any difference who you are or what you are. If you're an American, you're an American."

"That was over the top. It was beyond just good political fighting back and forth," he said. "And to sort of throw in this little Muslim connection, you know, 'He's a Muslim and, my goodness, he's a terrorist' -- it was taking root. And we can't judge our people and we can't hold our elections on that kind of basis."

After Powell's announcement, McCain told Fox News he considered Powell and himself "longtime friends" and that he respected him.

Powell also referred to a photo essay from a magazine featuring a photo of a mother resting her head on the tombstone of her son at Arlington National Cemetery. The tombstone lists the soldier's awards, including a Purple Heart, that were earned in Iraq. The solider was Kareem Khan, a 20-year-old Muslim from New Jersey.

The soldier's father, Feroze Khan, said he wants to personally thank Powell for his statement.

"All my son wanted to do was serve his country," he told CNN. "Since he was a boy, he wanted to be in the Army. That was his dream. That's the only thing he ever wanted."

"It was not about how he was Muslim, it was about who he was and what he stood for," Feroze Khan said. "He told me, 'I am going to fight for my faith, not against it.'"

Feroze Khan doesn't want to talk about politics. What the candidates say about his religion is of little importance to him. His son defined what he believes in.

KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Aid agencies say they will review their presence and security arrangements in Afghanistan after the killing of a foreign relief worker.
Gayle Williams, 34, who had dual British and South African nationality, was shot dead on Monday by gunmen on a motorbike in Kabul.

She worked for SERVE Afghanistan (Serving Emergency Relief and Vocational Enterprise), an inter-denominational Christian charity that helps the disabled, the organization's chairman said in a statement.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the death, saying on its Web site it killed the "foreign woman" for preaching Christianity in the country, adding that it had been following the woman for some time.

Relief charities in Afghanistan, who said in August that attacks on aid workers were forcing them to scale back relief work, said Tuesday that they would look again at increasing protection.

Matt Wilson, deputy program director at War Child, warned that if the situation became more dangerous, then the charity may withdraw its team.

"We are monitoring the situation, and are reviewing whether they need to be in Kabul," he told the UK's Press Association.

"If it became much worse, then we would look at pulling back to somewhere like Turkmenistan and continue our work."

Williams was shot in the western part of the city, Interior Ministry spokesman Zemarai Bashary said, while walking to work. She died shortly after the attack, SERVE Afghanistan chairman Mike Lyth said.

"She was a person who always loved the Afghans and was dedicated to serving those who are disabled," Lyth said. "Needless to say, we are all in shock." Williams was one of 23 expatriates who worked for SERVE Afghanistan, which also employs 450 Afghans in the country.

A statement on SERVE Afghanistan's Web site -- attributed only to "C and E" -- described Williams as "one of the inspiring people of the world who truly put others before herself."

"She was killed violently while caring for the most forgotten people in the world; the poor and the disabled," the statement said. "She herself would not regret taking the risk of working in Afghanistan. She was where she wanted to be -- holding out a helping hand to those in need."

Other charities said they might raise security levels for aid workers. Dominic O'Reilly, UK director of Afghanaid, told PA: "We will review our security, but will continue to use female staff.

"We employ low-profile security and prefer not to use armed guards, but we do review arrangements on a daily basis." He added: "We are a much softer target than the military. Unfortunately I don't think this will be the last casualty."

Christian Aid, said it had no plans to pull its two international staff and a "small" team of local workers out of Afghanistan. A spokesman said: "Arrangements for their safety are kept under constant review.

"We work with local partners where the need is greatest, irrespective of race or religion. "This was apparently accepted by Taliban when they constituted the Afghan government and we were able to work inside the country."

In August British-Canadian aid worker Jacqueline Kirk, 40, and two other women working for the charity International Rescue Committee were killed. And 23 South Korean church volunteers were kidnapped in southern Afghanistan in July 2007. Two were killed before the others were released unharmed.

Yahoo slashes 10% of workforce

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Yahoo announced Tuesday that it plans to cut at least 10% of its workforce, or more than 1,500 employees, in the fourth quarter in an effort reduce costs.

The struggling Internet company also announced sales for the third quarter that were roughly in line with Wall Street's forecasts and earnings that matched expectations.

Yahoo had 15,200 employees at the end of the third quarter. The much-anticipated round of layoffs comes on the heels of another 1,000 job cuts in late January.

"We have been disciplined about balancing investments with cost management all year, and have now set in motion initiatives to reduce costs and enhance productivity," said Yahoo co-founder and CEO Jerry Yang in a written statement.

"The steps we are taking this quarter should deliver both near-term benefits to operating cash flow, and substantially enhance the nimbleness and flexibility with which we compete over the long term," he added.

In a conference call after the results were announced, Yang said the company was working to reduce costs in other ways than just slashing jobs, including relocating offices and consolidating real estate. "We are identifying ways we can operate more efficiently," he said.

Yahoo (YHOO, Fortune 500) reported revenue of $1.79 billion in the quarter ended Sept. 30, an increase of 1% from the $1.77 billion in the same quarter one year ago.

Excluding commissions paid to advertising partners, Yahoo posted sales of $1.33 billion, slightly lower than the $1.37 billion in sales that analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected on this basis.

Yahoo reported net income of $54 million, or 4 cents per share, a decline of 51% from a year ago. Excluding certain one-time charges, Yahoo recorded profits of $123 million, or 9 cents per share, which was in line with what analysts had forecast on this basis.

Yahoo's stock ended the regular trading day down 79 cents at $12.07 but rose 7% in after hours trading.

The report provided "no more negative surprise beyond what we had already expected," said Sandeep Aggarwal, Senior Internet Analyst at Collins Stewart.

And given the weak economy, Yahoo's report "could have been a lot worse," noted Jeffrey Lindsay, senior analyst with Sanford C. Bernstein & Co.

Lindsay said that Yahoo's decision to reduce costs, mostly through massive job cuts, has the potential to buoy the company through the hard times. "If they really do take the staff numbers down for real, that will have a very beneficial effect," said Lindsay.

Yahoo's stock has been battered in recent months due to concerns that companies would cut their online advertising spending as a result of the economic slowdown. Executives admitted that Yahoo's performance has been taking a hit from the sluggish economy.

"An increasingly challenging economic climate and softening advertising demand contributed to revenues this quarter coming in at the low end of our outlook range," said Yahoo Finance Chief Blake Jorgensen in a statement.

"While we are disappointed with our results, we're pleased that we continue to benefit from the aggressive cost management efforts we have pursued during the year," he added.

Looking forward. In light of the distressed global economic climate, Yahoo lowered its sales guidance for the remainder of the year. At the end of the second quarter, the company was expecting sales to be in the range of $7.35 billion and $7.85 billion. However, the company has now trimmed that revenue guidance to between $7.18 billion and $7.38 billion.

Even thought Yahoo cut its sales forecasts, the company didn't decrease operating cash flow guidance. According to Aggarwal, that means that Yahoo's profit margins will be higher than originally thought.

Investors are worried that large companies will spend less on so-called Internet display ads, such as banners and video. Automakers and banks, two of the nation's hardest hit sectors, have typically been big purchasers of display ads.

Yahoo turned down several takeover offers from Microsoft (MSFT, Fortune 500) this year, a decision that has frustrated many Yahoo shareholders. Since then, Yahoo has pursued an ad-sharing deal with top rival Google (GOOG, Fortune 500).

The partnership has been put on hold, however, as the Justice Department investigates whether the deal would create an online advertising monopoly and violate antitrust laws.

In the conference call, Yang shot down speculation that Google might pull out of the partnership and said that the company was still working with the Department of Justice to negotiate the deal with Google. "We look forward to bringing the benefits to the marketplace as soon as possible," said Yang.

Also on the conference call, Yahoo president Susan Decker talked about Yahoo's efforts to move away from a "one size fits all" portal to a more customized experience. Yahoo has been criticized by some for being too broad and lacking a definite focus.

Meanwhile, Google announced last week that its profits jumped a better-than-expected 26% in the third quarter. Google has continued to report strong growth despite the economic downturn thanks to its dominance in search advertising.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, California (AP) -- Hollywood's leading men are usually perfect physical specimens. Those who aren't become character actors.
Except James Marsden. He's pursued quirky characters despite his leading-man looks. Marsden is the guy on the sidelines, the goofy one who doesn't get the girl. So his face is familiar but not immediately identifiable.

"Most people are like, `Didn't we go to high school together?"' said the 35-year-old actor, whose screen credits include "Superman Returns," "The Notebook" and three "X-Men" movies.

Marsden is taking a "slow-burn" approach; choosing roles that appeal to him in the hope that a gradual and meandering ascent will lead to a long and varied career.

"In going for the movie-star thing, the lead-guy thing, I've managed to have this whole sidetrack thing going where I'm playing these silly roles and doing great, offbeat, different things," he said. "It was just to have fun being an actor, entertain yourself while you're going for the gold. There was the career path and the work path. And now the work path has sort of become the career path."

After his roles in big-budget movies such as "Hairspray" (he played Corny Collins), "Enchanted" (he was the prince who lost his princess to Patrick Dempsey) and "27 Dresses" (where he finally got the girl), Marsden plays a foul-mouthed bigot in the independent teen comedy "Sex Drive," in theaters Friday.

He steals every scene as Rex, an overbearing tough guy who mercilessly teases his virginal younger brother.

Director Sean Anders had reservations about casting Marsden.

"I thought, `Oh no, this is some pretty-boy actor who wants to be in a comedy and thinks he's funny but isn't,"' Anders said.

Then he saw an audition tape that Marsden recorded for a different movie. Marsden was so ego-less and goofy, he used his computer Web cam to film himself reading lines for the role he wanted.

"By the end of it, I was like, `Can we really get this guy?"' Anders said.

Marsden wanted to do comedy, especially after his turn as Cyclops in the "X-Men" movies. Even after "Hairspray" and "Enchanted," though, he longed for something edgier. With "Sex Drive," he could see the character in his mind: the muscle shirts, the highlighted hair.

Marsden said he also hoped the part might catch the eye of Judd Apatow, director of "Knocked Up" and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin."

"This is completely over the top, and it's so different from anything you've seen me do," he said. "Now I feel like people will go, `OK, he's funny. He can do comedy. But then I've got to put the brakes on a little bit and remind people I can do other things."

Though he happily plays quirky roles, Marsden hasn't taken his eye off the leading-man prize. "I'd be lying to you if I said I didn't aspire to that," he said. "I want to be a version of that. ... But I'm more like these weirdo, wacky, stupid characters I keep playing in these movies."

The Oklahoma native began acting in junior high. After a brief stint in college, he headed to Los Angeles, California, where he had a string of small parts before landing a role in 2000's "X-Men." The following year, his wife, actress Lisa Linde, gave birth to their first child.

"I just sort of loosened up a little bit and stopped trying to navigate every little point, all of this career trajectory," he said. "I just started having more fun with the roles and choosing more fun roles."

He's a bit daunted about being the leading man; to play, as he puts it, a nuance of himself rather than a caricature.

But Anders said it's inevitable.

"He's going to become more of a leading man as time goes by because everyone who works with him is so impressed with what he does," he said. "He is great-looking, yet you can still laugh at him and laugh with him. He's got such a real quality about him that guys aren't put off by him. Everybody's seen how great he is in other genres, and how he can be so funny in 'Enchanted' and 'Sex Drive.' The guy's got range."

The slow-burn approach suits Marsden just fine.

"I just want to stay in the game and keep working," he said. "The ideal career for me is to be able to let whatever inspires you creatively dictate what you choose to do, then the financial stability and all that stuff follows."

DOMiNO gives us from what I looked at the trailer a wonderfully cheesy B-grade horror film. So if your into below grade horror like myself as I have a bad habit of downloading it why not enjoy this release so you can laugh for an hour and a half.

Quality: This release is a tad odd, and not in a bad way at all. First of all the general video encode is great for a 700mb release coming in at around 819 kbit/s. But this is where it gets great, keeping the great video quality they also have included the AC3 6 channel audio track and it sounds great. Most likely it was put in considering the bitrate of the AC3 file comes in at 224 kbit/s. In overall though its a great encode from DOMiNO.

Plot: As five underworld heavies settle in for an all night stay at an abandoned warehouse and former film studio, a series of bizarre and unsettling occurrences quickly lead them to believe they are not alone. Ely Buenda says he’s fine, gears for some gigs

Former front man of popular band Eraserheads Ely Buendia said that he is now in good condition.

In an interview, Buendia who is the current lead vocalist of band Pupil said that he thanks the Lord for extending his life after he underwent an angioplasty last September 1 following the shortened Eraserheads' reunion concert last August 30.

Buendia experienced chest pains and reportedly collapsed backstage after the first set of the long-awaited reunion concert held at the Fort Bonifacio Open Field in Taguig City on August 30. He was transferred to the Philippine Heart Center (PHC) the next day after being treated at the Makati Medical Center's emergency room.

“Awa ng Diyos buhay pa ako…ang angioplasty ay successful naman,” he said.

Buendia who failed to complete the concert reunion said that he still does not know if a repeat of the concert would be possible.

“Hindi ko alam, wala pang ping-uusapan,” he briefly answered.

The singer said that he spends his time resting but added that is ready anytime to do some gigs with his band Pupil.

“The band is still there and I will be joining them next, next week for a few gigs,” he said.

Buendia shared that his doctor already gave him a go signal that he could go back to performing.

“Siyempre dapat may blessing niya, sabi niya yes na, okay na daw ako,” he said.

The singer who still wants to keep his passion – performing with his band - said that he keeps on hoping that what transpired during the ‘E-heads’ reunion concert would not happen again.

“Hopefully hindi na mangyari ‘yong ganoong situation,” Buendia ended.

Entertainment and food

While on Calle Ocho, don't miss the Cuban food and coffee at Little Havana's famed Versailles Restaurant, 3555 SW Eighth St., a required stop for vote-seeking politicians -- including, most recently, Republican presidential contenders Rudy Giuliani and Mike Huckabee.

Nature

The best way to see South Florida's alligator-infested waters is riding an airboat through the Everglades. Everglades Alligator Farm is about 35 miles south of Miami in Homestead, while Everglades Safari Park is about 15 miles west on the Tamiami Trail. Both places offer a chance to experience Florida's river of grass up close. You can even take a picture holding a baby alligator or watch an alligator show. The adventure, airboat and all, costs about $23 for adults, $15 or less for children. Both Web sites offer printable discount coupons.

Also in Homestead, Shark Valley Tram Tours rents bikes for $6.50 an hour. A 15-mile nature trail through the northern region of Everglades National Park takes two to three hours. If you'd rather rest your feet, a two-hour guided tram ride with wildlife viewing and a stop at the Shark Valley observation tower for a panoramic view of the Everglades costs $15.25 ($9.25 for ages 3-12). (Access to Shark Valley was limited in early October due to flooding, with tram tours suspended and bike routes limited, so check on conditions before you plan a trip there.)

The fee for car entry to Everglades National Park is $10, good for seven consecutive days, or $5 per person on foot, bike or motorcycle.

Transportation

Miami lacks comprehensive public transportation, but there are economical ways to get around. You can't miss the big blue Super Shuttle vans from the airport to the beach and Miami hotels, $20 plus tip. The Tri-Rail is a convenient, affordable way to navigate the region, with stops including area airports, Fort Lauderdale, Delray Beach, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach. One-way fares are $2-$5.50, all-day $4 weekend fare.

Taxis are widely available if you prefer not to rent a car. A ride from the airport to the beach can cost about $30-35.

Federer faces Murray in U.S. Open repeat

MADRID, Spain (AP) -- Roger Federer beat ninth-seed Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina 6-3 6-3 on Friday to reach the Madrid Masters semifinals, where he will face Andy Murray in a rematch of the U.S. Open final.

The second-seeded Federer used an effective slice serve on the fast indoor surface and was never broken.

"The slice goes nicely on this court. I felt good using it to counter Juan Martin's height," Federer said.

"He started serving great, many aces," Federer said. "That's what makes him the good player he is. I had the ability to stay calm and use my slice well here in Madrid where conditions are very quick."

Federer was helped by Del Potro's four double-faults.

"Roger generates pressure just by being in front of you," the Argentine said. "I double-faulted on my serve in each set to lose the match. Roger gave nothing away and I wasn't able to even take a set off him.

"He broke my rhythm all the time and took full advantage of his break points, which I wasn't able to do. That's the difference."

Federer, who missed last week's Stockholm Open due to fatigue, said he felt happy with his physical condition.

"I don't know what would have happened if I'd gone to Stockholm, but I'm playing well here," he said.

Federer's semifinal opponent will be the fourth-seeded Murray, who beat Gael Monfils of France 6-2 6-2.

Federer beat Murray in the U.S. Open final, 6-2 7-5 6-2.

"I'll have to come with a proper game plan," Federer said. "He played well against Monfils, so I'll have my hands full with him."

Monfils broke Murray in the opening game, but Murray broke back immediately. Murray broke two more times to take the set. The second set followed the same pattern.

"He almost enjoys running too much and almost likes you to dictate play," Murray said of his 22-year-old opponent. "Once he gets used to big matches we're going to be seeing a lot more of him."

In other quarterfinals later on Friday night, top-seed Rafael Nadal played Feliciano Lopez in an all-Spanish matchup, and Gilles Simon of France faced Ivo Karlovic of Croatia.

UK: Army to get leader keen on Afghan surge

LONDON, England (CNN) -- A British general who advocates a troop "surge" in Afghanistan will be appointed head of the British Army next year, the Ministry of Defense said Friday.

Gen. David Richards, the current commander-in-chief of British Land Forces, will take over from Gen. Richard Dannatt in August 2009, when Dannatt's three-year term expires, the defense ministry said.

Richards, who is responsible for delivering forces to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kosovo in his current role, was head of NATO forces in Afghanistan between May 2006 and February 2007.

In a June interview with the defense ministry's Defence Focus magazine, Richards called for more troops in order to succeed in Afghanistan.

"Though things have improved, don't think for one minute we can believe that we are 'winning,'" Richards told the magazine.

"We need to define success carefully and continue to look for opportunities to increase troops for the surge effect that the Americans had in Iraq. We need boots on the ground and reconstruction to win their hearts and minds."

Richards told the magazine that the situation in the country had improved since he commanded NATO forces there, in part because troop numbers had doubled.

London's Independent newspaper reported Friday that Richards favors 30,000 additional troops for Afghanistan -- 5,000 more British troops and 25,000 U.S. and Afghan soldiers.

Britain currently has about 8,000 troops in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defense said.

Richards also believes that a negotiated settlement may be necessary to end the conflict, but that any talks must take place with the Afghan government and NATO in a position of strength, The Independent reported.

Although Friday's announcement does not mean an early retirement for Dannatt, British news reports Friday said Dannatt may be passed over for the job of head of the UK armed forces when he steps down from his current role.

News reports said Dannatt, 57, had irritated top officials with comments on Iraq policy and highlighting serious strains on the armed forces.

In July, Dannatt defended himself after reports that he was expected to resign early. In a letter to The Daily Telegraph newspaper, Dannatt said he intended to serve his full term.

Rome workers uncover city of dead

ROME, Italy (AP) -- Workers renovating a rugby stadium have uncovered a vast complex of tombs beneath Rome that mimic the houses, blocks and streets of a real city, according to officials, who have unveiled a series of new finds.

Culture Ministry officials said Thursday that medieval pottery shards in the city of the dead, or necropolis, show the area may have been inhabited by the living during the Dark Ages after being used for centuries for burials during the Roman period.

It is not yet clear who was buried in the ancient cemetery, but archaeologists at the still partially excavated site believe at least some of the dead were freed slaves of Greek origin.

"It's a matter of a few weeks to discover what is down there," said archaeologist Marina Piranomonte. "But it's something big; it looks like a neighborhood."

A separate dig in the north of the city has turned up the tomb of a nobleman who led Rome's legions in the second century A.D.

The mausoleum was covered in mud during a flood of the river Tiber, which collapsed most of the monument but helped preserve exquisite decorations, marble columns and inscriptions from plunderers and the ravages of time.

Writings at the site led experts to identify the tomb as belonging to Marcus Nonius Macrinus, one of the closest aides and generals of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius during his campaigns against Germanic tribes in Northern Europe.

Other spectacular discoveries were also unveiled at the news conference at the Culture Ministry.

Archaeologists restoring the imperial residences on the Palatine Hill, in the heart of ancient Rome, believe they have discovered the underground passageway in which the despotic Emperor Caligula was murdered by his own guards.

The hill, which his honeycombed with ruins of palaces and villas, has also yielded frescoes and black-and-white mosaics in the first century B.C. home of a patrician, the ministry said in a statement.

Separately, experts working in Castel di Guido on the outskirts of Rome have enlarged their dig at a previously known complex of country villas owned by Rome's rich and powerful, uncovering fountains, baths and a cistern, the statement said.

Archaeologists will keep working at the digs to make them accessible to visitors. Officials plan to build a museum next to Macrinus' tomb, which will also offer a virtual reconstruction of the site.

(CNN) -- U.S. President George W. Bush defended government interventions in the financial system as necessary to ward off a wider economic crisis.

He spoke on another day of stomach-churning volatility in world markets.

European markets slid early but bounced back to end higher. U.S. markets ended a choppy session with a decline. Major Asian markets also largely closed down.

Bush said: "The U.S. government is acting, and we will continue to act, to resolve this crisis and return stability to our markets."

His comments came as more bad economic news emerged -- this time from the U.S. construction industry with the number of new build homes sliding to a 17-year low.

Applications for building permits are considered a reliable sign of future construction activity, and the sharp fall indicates that home building will continue to be a drag on the economy.

In a speech to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce he said the government is coordinating its efforts with other countries. He added it had taken "credit markets time to freeze" and it would take them "time to thaw."

Governments around the world have moved to take stakes in banks and pump more cash into loan markets to boost confidence.

In Paris, French bank Caisse D'Epargne announced Friday it lost $805 million in the derivatives market last week, but it pointed out it still has more than $26.9 billion in equity.

In an announcement designed to reassure the market, Caisse D'Epargne said: "This loss does not affect the financial foundation of the company and does not have any consequence for the customers."

Some good news came when bank-to-bank lending rates dipped again -- a positive sign for the credit markets and an indication that government moves to boost the economy by pumping trillions into banks was having an effect.

The Hang Seng index in Hong Kong was down 4.4 percent in afternoon trading, while the Taiwan Weighted finished down 2.3 percent. The Singapore Straits Times index pushed lower, slipping 2.8 percent. It wasn’t that long ago that we had a DVD screener of this film from PreVail. I was going to check it out then, but never got around to it, maybe now with the DVDRip I will. This is a DVDRip, the film is only 86 minutes and the audio bitrate is high, strangely the resolution is a bit lower than usual, but is fine. From skipping through this movie I can feel its going to be awesome, and I’ve heard nothing but great things about this film.

Plot: Thomas Michael, Paolo Mancini, Chris Klein and Joe Mantegna star in director Matthiew Klinck’s holiday-themed comedy concerning two downsized Easter bunnies whose friendship starts to suffer when the multi-national corporation that owns all holidays decides to make some serious cutbacks. Hank and Mike are the Felix Unger and Oscar Madison of holiday mascots: They may seem like a mismatched pair yet their differences are precisely what’s kept them together all these years. While Hank is a hard drinking ladies man, Mike can’t seem to look past his own insecurities long enough to realize how truly miserable he is. Once a year, Hank and Mike dutifully venture out to deliver Easter baskets to families everywhere. This year, however, Easter Enterprises has taken a hit, and all “Tier 2″ holidays (Christmas and Hanukkah being prime examples of “Tier 1″) are fair game for downsizing. Since Hank and Mike work only once a year, their jobs are the first to go. Subsequently relegated to the unemployment office and unable to break free of their furry-tailed past, these two longtime pals are about to discover just how valuable their friendship can be in times of need.

Now here is a really badass film which was released in a great quality R5 by mVs a few months back, but this retail DVDRip looks a whole lot better. I’ll automatically watch anything with either Morgan Freeman or Angelina Jolie in it, so this deserves a re-watch. This is definitely an off beat action flick. There are some sci-fi influences, so don’t expect anything realistic here (unless you define firing bullets in circles as realistic).

Update: Wanted.PAL.DVDR-SCREAM is out.

Quality: As you can see in both the snapshots and the video sample, the quality is great. 2CD DVDRip with 5.1 AC3 audio, simply awesome. This has a great 7.1 rating on IMDB as well, so most people who watched it thought it was great. English subtitles are included.

Summary: The anxious, clumsy and abused office clerk Wesley Allan Gibson has a hell and boring routine life: his obese boss humiliates him all the time and his girlfriend betrays him with his colleague and best friend during working period. LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Jack Narz, a longtime game show host who was an early victim of the quiz show scandals of the 1950s when a show he was hosting was canceled, has died. He was 85.

Narz died Wednesday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from complications of a stroke, his wife, Delores, said Thursday.

Among the shows he hosted over the years were "Video Village," which began in 1960, "Seven Keys," 1961, "I'll Bet," 1963, and "Now You See It," 1974, according to the book "TV Game Shows!" by Maxene Fabe.

He also guest hosted many shows and did updated 1970s versions of older shows such as "Concentration" and "Beat the Clock."

He was the brother of veteran game show host Tom Kennedy.

His brother was a triple threat with good looks, personality and a "wonderful" voice, Kennedy said Thursday.

"He had a Dean Martin approach" to the job, Kennedy said. "He was smooth, on top, made it look effortless, and yet he was a pro. He came out so casually ... like 'I'm doing this off the top of my head.' "

While Narz had a small role in the scandal that gripped the nation in the late 1950s, he was not accused of wrongdoing.

He was host of "Dotto," a televised connect-the-dots game, when it was abruptly taken off the air in August 1958. Audiences didn't know it at the time, but a contestant had gone to authorities after he found a notebook backstage that indicated that another contestant was given answers in advance.

"Fate is a strange thing, isn't it?" Narz recalled in the 1992 PBS documentary "The Quiz Show Scandal." "... A successful thing like that show ... everything is just sailing along fantastically well and then some guy opens up a notebook that's about that big and sees some answers and everything ends."

The cancellation was the first sign of problems in the quiz show business that were to explode in headlines over the next year and a half as state and federal investigators moved in.

"No one appears more amazed by the sudden cancellation of 'Dotto' than its master of ceremonies, Jack Narz, who learned that the show had been dropped about the same time reporters did," The Associated Press reported at the time.

A few weeks after "Dotto" was canceled, Narz was questioned by investigators in the New York district attorney's office and told reporters later he knew nothing of any irregularities on the show.

In an Associated Press interview at the time, Narz said he never even met the contestants in advance, except for occasionally trying to calm down a nervous contestant about to go on the air.

The cancellation was a heavy blow.

"He was crushed. He was just stunned," his brother said but called the cancellation "just a stutter-step."

The sponsor, Colgate, immediately cast him in another game show, and his career lasted several more decades, Kennedy said.

Early in his career, Narz was an announcer on an early 1950s science fiction TV series called "Space Patrol." In the book "Space Patrol" by Jean-Noel Bassior, he recalled that one time, exhausted from doing too many freelance announcing jobs, he fell asleep on the job. Luckily, he said, a special effects "explosion" on the set peppered him with shards of papier-mache and woke him up just in time to do the live commercial spot.

In addition to his wife and brother, Narz is survived by a sister, Mary Lovett Scully of Las Vegas; sons David of Palm Springs and John and Michael of Los Angeles; a daughter, Karen Ferretti of Los Angeles; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

"The objectives remain unchanged, the calendar remains the same," French President Nicolas Sarkozy told a news conference at the end of the two-day summit. "The deadline on climate change is so important that we cannot use the financial and economic crisis as a pretext for dropping it."

Poland and six other Eastern European nations had infuriated other EU member states with a surprise demand that the bloc drop a December target for agreeing details of the plan to fight global warning, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent by 2020.

Together with Italy, they were concerned that the costs of going green, combined with the looming economic downturn sparked by the turmoil on financial markets, would be too much for European industry to bear.

Although all 27 leaders agreed in the end to stick to the objectives, Sarkozy acknowledged that he faced a tough task ahead in getting a unanimous deal on how to share out the burden of the switch to cleaner energy by the December deadline.

To help industry, the EU leaders agreed to consider a stimulus package for the economy.

Sarkozy pointed particularly to the auto industry, which is demanding a €40 billion ($54.5 billion) bailout fund.

"Can you ask the European car industry to provide clean cars, change the whole industrial apparatus, without giving them a helping hand?" Sarkozy asked.

He said European car makers might need a state cash injection, similar to a U.S. government $25 billion low-interest credit line announced last month in Washington for General Motors, Ford and Chrysler.

Sarkozy said the EU's executive body, the European Commission, would come up with concrete measures to help industry before the bloc's next summit, in December. They will have to overcome doubts of some nations who are wary of pumping government aid into industry.

The leaders confirmed their approval of a €1.7 trillion ($2.3 trillion) emergency bailout for the banking sector and the call for a concerted global approach to revamp the world's financial system to prevent a repeat of the crisis devastating money markets.

In a compromise on climate change, the leader agreed to stick to the December deadline but would work to ensure a fair sharing of the burden to avoid penalizing the former Communist nations who depend largely on carbon-heavy coal for their power.

"We want a package that will be tolerable for the poorer member states," said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

The EU plan would cost governments and business billions of euros to implement new cleaner technologies, renewable energy sources, and reduce emissions from cars and factories.

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said that would put Europe at a disadvantage to competitors in China and the United States.

Supporters of the plan countered that taking a world lead in switching to green energy would bring economic advantages to Europe.

The EU's environment agency, meanwhile, said that 15 EU nations were on track to meet another target to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 8 percent by 2012 thanks to "expected outstanding performance" by Britain, Germany and Sweden.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said an agreement in December on how to achieve the emissions cuts would enable Europe to take the lead in discussion with the new U.S. administration next year on a global climate change agreement.

By next fall, NASA plans to launch its biggest Red Planet rover yet, the $1.8-billion, SUV-size Mars Research Laboratory. Even though the MRL will be able to haul five times as much equipment as the Spirit and Opportunity rovers that are already on Mars, a group of Swedish researchers say that they could accomplish far more if accompanied by a squad of helper 'bots.

Fredrik Bruhn, the CEO of Ångström Aerospace Corporation, and his colleagues have designed the small inflatable scouts to assist bigger, less mobile rovers in their hunt for signs of microbial life on Mars.

Each foot-wide, 11-pound ball can roll up to 62 miles, snap photos at any angle, and take soil samples, drawing its power from the solar panels on its shell. Unlike wheeled rovers, the rounded scouts have fewer motors to repair, never flip over, and are easier to seal from dust. Plus, they rarely get stuck.

"The beauty of the system is it needs very little energy to go around rocks, so unless you're landing on a surface that looks like a bed of nails, it should be fine," Bruhn says.

In 2004, Bruhn helped found Swedish company Rotundus, whose Earth-based GroundBot is now test-patrolling a harbor in Stockholm. By using GroundBot's pendulum-propulsion mechanism, swapping in a radiation-proof computer, and designing a lightweight, inflatable shell, he thinks he could produce four of the Mars balls for as little as $6 million.

"We just need to assemble the bits and pieces and test it," says Bruhn, who shows his design to NASA officials this month.

INFLATION: The deflated scouts are stored in boxes aboard the Mars Research Laboratory. After landing, a latch opens the box, and a spring inside gently rolls them onto the Martian surface. This motion triggers a canister of xenon gas inside the ball to release and inflate the scouts before they hit the ground.

EXPLORATION: Each ball runs on two solar-powered motors. One motor swings a pendulum to move the ball's center of mass, building forward- or backward-moving momentum. To turn, a second motor tilts the pendulum along the main axle -- "the same physics used to fly a helicopter," Bruhn says. The robot can automatically decrease its internal pressure to more easily roll over soft surfaces and patches of sand.

COMMUNICATION: The autonomous scouts would collect data on the conductivity and age of the Martian terrain, take photos, and send information back to the MRL and ground control. The MRL serves as the scouts' communication hub, receiving and transmitting messages from each ball.

One more milk-based food product has been tested positive for melamine contamination by the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD), the Department of Health (DOH) announced Wednesday.

Tests done by the BFAD concluded that Lotte Strawberry Snack Koala Biscut is postive for melamine contamination.

On the other hand, 34 other products have been found negative for melamine contamination. These were:

McCain talks tough ahead of final debate with Obama

NEW YORK - Republican John McCain has a third and final chance to debate his way back into contention when he faces his hard-charging White House rival Barack Obama in New York later Wednesday.

McCain, who was down a whopping 14 points in one new poll as the United States weathers its worst financial crisis in decades, talked tough heading into the last presidential debate before the November 4 vote.

At the weekend, McCain promised to Virginia supporters he would "whip" his Democratic opponent's "you know what" during the evening debate starting at 0100 GMT at Hofstra University on Long Island.

On Tuesday, as he issued the latest version of his plan to end the financial tumult, the Arizona senator vowed to bring up Obama's links to 1960s radical turned Chicago education professor William Ayers.

"It's not that I give a damn about some old washed-up terrorist and his terrorist wife," McCain, 72, told KMOX radio in Saint Louis, Missouri.

"What I care about and what the American people care about is whether he (Obama) is being truthful with the American people."

But as millions of voters fret about possibly losing their jobs and health care, the perils of a negative strategy from McCain are clear as Obama, 47, builds up a commanding lead in several polls .

A New York Times-CBS News poll late Tuesday had Obama ahead of McCain by the huge margin of 14 points, 53 to 39 percent, compared to a lead of just three points before last week's second presidential debate.

At that debate, McCain jabbed his finger and spat out "that one" instead of naming Obama. But the Democrat kept his cool, and snap polls gave him a second victory after his assured performance in the first debate in late September.

CBS said 21 percent of respondents now had a less favorable view of McCain in light of his Ayers-related character attacks on Obama and his choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as running mate.

Another new survey by the Los Angeles Times and Bloomberg showed Obama was ahead by nine points, 50 to 41 percent. Nearly seven in 10 cited the economy as their top concern, and Obama was their preferred candidate.

"Senator Obama is going to use the debate to discuss his plan for the economy . That's what he's been doing for weeks," Obama spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.

"And while McCain has promised to bring up Bill Ayers to distract voters, every minute that he spends continuing to ignore the economy and the middle class is a minute wasted," she said.

"This is John McCain's last chance to turn this race around and somehow convince the American people that his erratic response to this economic crisis doesn't disqualify him from being president."

Ayers and his wife Bernadine Dohrn were part of a group of anti-Vietnam War militants called the Weather Underground that bombed government buildings in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

McCain says the professor was instrumental to Obama's political rise from the mid-1990s, a claim dismissed by the Democrat's camp as wildly exaggerated. It says the pair were only loosely connected in Chicago charitable work.

Heading in to the last debate, Obama has maintained a laser-guided focus on the economy, which now trumps McCain's strong suit of national security as the election's defining issue.

Quinnipiac University polls Tuesday suggested the Illinois senator has broken through the 50-percent threshold in four of the most important battleground states: Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

"Those margins may be insurmountable, barring a reversal that has never been seen before in the modern era," said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

The Republican, however, insisted Americans still do not know the real Obama.

Addressing a rally in Pennsylvania, McCain said his rival's "eloquent" advocacy of lower taxes for the middle class was belied by his record of voting for higher taxes.

"What he promises today is the opposite of what he has done his entire career. Perhaps never before in history have the American people been asked to risk so much based on so little," he said.

On arriving in New York late Tuesday, McCain dined with Republican fundraisers at a 1,000 dollar per person event and told supporters he had seen "all this enthusiasm" on the campaign trail.

Last-ditch effort to save 3 Pinoys on death row in Saudi urged

The news about the beheading of an overseas Filipino worker in Saudi Arabia could further exacerbate the depression already suffered by the families of three other OFWs on death row, according to an international alliance of migrant workers.

Migrante International said the Tameez Appellate Court in Jeddah affirmed a month ago the death sentence against brothers Edison and Rolando Gonzales and Eduardo Arcilla.

"We are afraid that the longer this government promotes GFMD (Global Forum on Migration and Development), the more OFWs will come home in coffins,” said Gina Esguerra, coordinator of Migrants Assistance Committee of Migrante International.

The Philippines will be hosting the 2nd GFMD in Manila on October 27-30. The intergovernmental meeting will discuss migration, development and human rights.

Filipino migrant worker Jenifer Bidoya, who was convicted of murder in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was executed Tuesday despite appeals made by the Philippine government.

Bidoya, also known as Venancio Ladion, was executed at 10 a.m. Saudi time. The death sentence was affirmed by the Tameez Court and the Supreme Judicial Council (Supreme Court) on 21 April 2008, despite appeals filed by the lawyer hired by the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah to represent Bidoya before the Emir of Makkah, the Governor of Jeddah, and the Minister of Interior.

'Use GFMD funds to save Pinoy OFWs'

“We demand that the millions of pesos that the government plans to spend in this international forum be re-channelled instead to saving lives of OFWs and for the immediate relief of their suffering families," Esguerra said.

ABS-CBN correspondent Sol Aragones reported that the sister of the Gonzales brothers fears that her siblings could end up like Bidoya.

"Hindi po namin alam kung matutulad din po ang mga kapatid ko na mapugutan ng ulo ng walang ginagawa ang gubyerno natin. Sana po, habang may panahon maisalba na nila ang mga kapatid ko,” Nory Gonzalez said.

The three were arrested and convicted for allegedly killing fellow Filipinos Romeo Lumbang, Jeremias Bucud and Dante Rivero. However, the three maintained that they were subjected to torture to admit to the crime they did not commit.

Migrante International chairperson Connie Bragas-Regalado said the government should also focus on the cases of the three OFWs.

“Kung ginawa man nila yun o hindi, nandoon ang responsibility, lalo na sa Philippine government na i-ensure nila na maproteksyunan din yung karapatan nitong mga nasasakdal,” said Regalado.

In addition, Regalado said that Migrante would want to ensure that the three be given due process, plus the chance to tell their side of the story.

“Isang pangamba namin na baka mapugatan ang mga taong ito na hindi naman sila ang nag-commit ng crime. Ang panawagan namin ay iligtas ang buhay ng ating mga kababayan,” she said.

Appeal for due process

Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) Chair Carol Araullo supported Migrante’s call for due process.

“Legally, bigyan muna ng due process para malaman kung ano ang tunay na nangyari. Talaga bang pinatay, sila ba ang salarin? Ano yung mga mitigating circumstances possible,” Araullo said.

Araullo also said the government should do more than just appeal to the head of the Saudi government on behalf of the OFWs.

“It’s important for the government na saklolohan yung akusado, bigyan ng legal advice, huwag mapunta sa execution, at in the long run, reverse the policy of labor export,” she said.

In a related development, Regalado added that cases of the Gonzales brothers and Arcilla will be included in the complaint which Migrante will submit to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights of Migrants.

Furthermore, Regalado said Gonzales’ and Arcilla’s cases are now being taken up by the international human rights groups.

“Dahil din sa pakikipagugnayan natin sa Amnesty International, nagkaroon sila ng intervention. In fact, nagkaroon sila ng online petition para doon sa kampanya na mas mailigtas ang buhay nitong tatlo,” Regalado said.

Eliseo dela Paz, who just until last week was the PNP Directorate for Comptrollership, was stopped and briefly held by airport authorities in Moscow, Russia for questioning as he was about to return to Manila, after he and his wife were discovered carrying 105,000 euros, or P6.9 million, which exceeded the amount every passenger is allowed to carry undeclared.

Dela Paz recounted his experience to ABS-CBN News through a telephone interview Wednesday.

"Nasa last stage na kami ng boarding dapat eh, nakita doon. It's unfortunate that even my wife was dragged into it dahil pinadala ko sa kanya ang pera," he said.

Dela Paz said he should not be compared to disgraced Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Comptroller Gen. Carlos F. Garcia, who was removed from service, charged with plunder, and detained for having hidden wealth after his wife and children underwent a similar experience in a United States airport back in 2003.

Dela Paz, as well as the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the PNP, maintained the money does not belong to dela Paz but is a contingency fund for the delegates to the 77th Interpol General Assembly in St. Petersburg, Russia.

The other members of the delegation were Deputy Chief for Administration Deputy Director General Emmanuel Carta, Deputy Chief of Operations Deputy Director General Ismael Rafanan, Director for Plans Director Romeo Ricardo, Human Resource and Doctrine Development Director German Doria, Director for Operations Director Silverio Alarcio, and Superintendent Elmer Pelobello.

Dela Paz said the Russia incident should not be compared with that of Garcia’s case.

"This is not my money. Different case naman yung kay Gen. Garcia, so there's no comparison on that. The money that I’m holding is PNP money," dela Paz said.

Exceeded $10,000 limit

But if the money was official and justified, why didn't dela Paz declare it?

Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) Executive Director Vic Aquino said dela Paz should have declared he was carrying such a big amount, especially since it far exceeded the limit of $10,000 (or its equivalent in any other currency) for international travelers.

Aquino said it is standard prcedure in airports around the world for customs officials to ask for a written declaration of money carried by travelers who exceed the standard limit.

Aquino added government officials do not have a limit of how much money they can carry out of the country, as long as the amount is properly declared, and the purpose of the money is clear.

There was no report on whether dela Paz declared the money before the delegation left the Philippines.

National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Nestor Mantarin, meanwhile, said two NBI senior officials were sent to the same Interpol conference and Russia but their per diem (daily allowance) was only US$171 each.

Mantarin said he was supposed to attend the conference but due to the budget deliberations in Congress, he instead sent Atty. Claro de Castro, head of the NBI Interpol division, and Arnel Dalumpines, head of the NBI's special task force division.

Mantarin said the per diem given to NBI staff who attend official functions abroad differs depending on where the meeting is held.

P2 million budget for eight officials

Eight ranking police officers were sent to the Interpol assembly, and the National Police Commission (Napolcom) had approved the trip with a P2 million budget.

According to documents obtained by ABS-CBN News, the total expenses for the trip, amounting to P2,314,096.00, were shouldered by the PNP.

Each person was allotted P 283,512.00, broken down as follows: P139,620.00 for airfare ($ 3,000 x P46.00 + P1,620 airport fees), P1,500 pre-departure allowance, an allowance of P128,892.00 ($467 daily allowance for six days), and P13,500 for visa and insurance application fees.

"What is important is that we await the liquidation of the fund, and this will be done soon as soon as Gen. dela Paz returns," Napolcom Vice Chairman Comm. Eduardo Escueta.

Contingency fund

But if dela Paz was given a P2.3 million budget, why was he carrying almost P7 million worth of euros on their way back to the Philippines?

DILG Secretary Ronaldo Puno said this was so because a huge cash advance is needed for a trip to Europe.

"Sa Europe, the hotels are easilly triple the hotels that we pay for here, so talagang mahal yon. It’s really an expensive proposition and that is an Interpol meeting. Remember that was a meeting of all the police agencies throughout the world. Hindi naman pwepwedeng pupunta ang delegation natin don na parang mga pulubi, so they had to go there in the standards of the average police force," Puno said.

"Hindi naman nya pera yon. Pera ng organisasyon ‘yon. It is subject to liquidation. A wala naman siyang balak na itago yon dahil eh di dapat itinago ‘yon nung papasok?," Puno added.

Dela Paz brought P470,000

In the interview with ABS-CBN News, dela Paz said part of the P6.9 million includes $10,000 or P470,000 of his own money.

"Anyway this contingency fund will be subject for liquidation naman. Yung nagastos, we have to justify yung gastos. Yung hindi naman, we have to return everything," he said.

"Merong bawas na rin yon...meron din akong dalang sarili kong pera. My wife, may mga around $10,000 siya so nadagdag yon," dela Paz said.

Documentation

Dela Paz added he showed documents to Russian authorities to prove that the money he was carrying is legitimate, but the documents are still being translated to Russian.

The PNP noted dela Paz needs to liquidate the delegates' expenses, and return the extra money.

The money will also be audited upon the return of dela Paz to make sure the PNP delegates did not use the budget for their personal expenses, since the spouses of some of the police officers were with the delegation.

But questions also linger on why dela Paz was allowed to join the delegation when he retired on October 9, or two days before their scheduled trip home.

Because of this incident the Napolcom will now review its policies on approving trips abroad for all police officials.

Expired visas

Meanwhile, dela Paz also said that he, his wife, and Dir. James Caringal and his wife are currently staying in a hotel a few blocks away from the Philippine Embassy in Moscow while he is awaiting clearance from Russian authorities.

He said they are only awaiting documentation for the money.

He added their visas already expired last October 11, and that embassy officials are helping them on the matter so that they would be able to go home as soon as possible.

Best P4P fighter today? Not Pacquiao, says Mayweather

Months into his retirement, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is again in the headlines, especially since he started talking about the boxing world's best pound-for-pound fighter and Philippine boxing idol, Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather, who retired in July after 15 years as an amateur and a professional, once told David Mayo of the Grand Rapids Press he's so far ahead of Pacquiao and the others being touted as his replacement as next best P4P fighter, he won't talk about them.

"I'm so far ahead of those other bums, I couldn't even tell you," he told Mayo.

Over the weekend, Boxingconfidential.com video correspondent Akbar Muhammad stoked the fire anew between Mayweather and Pacquiao when he wrote that, "The P4P title is about skills...Mayweather has complete skills... (Chad) Dawson is on his way to developing them...Pacquiao won't because he has no one to teach him."

Muhammad added that he believes Pacquiao may have fought fighters who were on their way down.

"Manny's competition has been better, but he caught these guys on the downside of their careers," said Muhammad.

He said that Pacquiao, who is 29 years old, "is closer to 50 when it comes to the mileage on his body."

Muhammad also suggested that a lot of fans have been waiting for Pacquiao to face off with a Black American boxer.

"But he has always avoided that . After Zahir Raheem defeated Erik Morales, the topic of Pacquiao-Raheem was squashed immediately," he said.

But for Boxingconfidential.com executive editor Michael Marley, the revival of the issue about Mayweather may have something to do with Bob Arum, Pacquiao's American promoter.

"You can be sure his (Mayweather's) old grudge against his ex-promoter, Bob Arum, is in the mix with this proclamation," Marley said in his online column.

Marley also disclosed information on why Mayweather retired prematurely in July despite reports that something was being worked on for a fight against Oscar de la Hoya that was supposed to take place in September this year.

"Mayweather is having vision problems. His eye or eyes are not the same as they used to be," Marley said.

No other reason but...

According to Marley, there is no other reason why Mayweather has been saying what he's been saying.

"Mayweather must be having eye problems because there is no other rational explanation for his suddenly declaring that Bad Chad Dawson, who barely beat Gentleman Glen Johnson, is the world’s best fighter, pound for pound," said Marley.

For Marley, the P4P title may have been Mayweather's when he was still active in the ring.

But when he retired, Mayweather effectively handed over the crown to Pacquiao.

"Some would argue that Manny had the mythical title even before Mayweather went into retirement," added Marley.

He further advised Mayweather to have his eyes checked out.

"You may be living in the land of the blind, Mayweather, which makes any one-eyed man your king," he said.

Pacquiao has been quoted as saying that should he win the December 6 megabuck welterweight super bout with Oscar de la Hoya, he may entice Mayweather to come out of retirement and decide once and for all, who's the best P4P around. Roy Medina, abs-cbnNEWS.com

Sixteen-year-old Filipina singer Charice Pempengco proved she could hold her own among some of the world's best musical stars at the glitzy Andre Agassi benefit concert at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas.

The Andre Agassi Benefit Concert is held annually in Las Vegas to benefit needy children. It features A-list superstars of the music world and this year, Charice was up on stage performing with Rod Stewart, Sheryl Crow and Mariah Carrey.

Before the show began, one of Charice's most fervent dreams came true, when she met and hugged superstar Mariah Carey. Charice was very emotional about the meeting. Carey also had good words about the Filipina.

"I am very happy and I home I'm gonna sing with her soon, I wish! You're beautiful, it's so nice to meet you. She's so cute! I love you Filipinos, thank you," said Carey.

Rod Steward and Sheryl Crow each had their turn onstage, but it was Charice that brought the house down as she was given a thunderous standing ovation by the audience.

"I probably had at least two dozen people stop me on the street just in the middle of anywhere that are Filipino: 'Hey, thank you so much!' Just out of nowhere, and, ' I want to come there.' We should all be proud of her, thanks to millie and Mike. They started it," said American composer and producer David Foster, who is now Charice's mentor.

Immigration lawyer Michael Gurfinkel, who has specialized in Filipino clients, also had praise for Charice.

"It's a source of Philippine pride that we have a Filipina performing with some of the greatest performers on earth," he said.

As she continues to go places worldwide, Charice is also gaining many fans, even among celebrities. No ordinary feat for this 16-year-old from Laguna.

Am i an IT Professional?

It is a very interesting question, yes indeed, i am a IT Profs.. why i have the nerve to claim it to my self? well, back to my college life.. i am one of those student who doesn't know where to go after college..so i listen to some of my mentors advised.. so the advised is this....what do you like most in IT? at first i can't answer it to my self..i am confused what to answer..

So i count on my fingers the list of something i know and learned... but still that list of something does not answer it all..but when the time has come to group our self for thesis.. i thought i can't be a leader of a group..well i guess, fate is playing me..so i have a 3 members in a group..but only 1 i can rely on.. and the 2 are just visitors.. this time i start programming, well I'm not a very good at this skill..

then as time past by, we manage to pass the thesis and graduate.. So i ask again to my self.. Why do i like IT? and i answer it, i like IT because i can make something that is useful to someone or anyone..Now i am a programmer of a know establishment here in Davao.. I've been a year in this profession..well sometimes it thrills me..because of new challenges comes.. and all i have learned in school.. i make use some it.. i made severalof programs that is used in the company..some of it are easy and some are head breaking..

This is my passion..this is what makes me to do so..and this is the result of my studies in college..that's why i can say yes to my self, am i an IT prof? because i exercise what an IT professional is.. ^_^

Changes From my Past.
